2016 Clown Sightings

In 2016, there were mass reports of killer clown sightings. At first, the reports were made in America, but they later became a global phenomenon. With sightings being made in England, Australia and other parts of the world. The craze is now viewed as mass hysteria.

In August 2016, the sightings were first reported in Green Bay, Wisconsin and they began to spread to other cities and states. Youtube videos emerged of killer clown compilations and rumours circulated of sightings happening everywhere, from playgrounds to school buildings. However, after a few months, the sightings died down, until the clowns disappeared all together.

In my opinion, it’s a bit weird that there were loads of them and then suddenly they just disappeared. Anyway here are some theories:

1. It was marketing for a horror movie that got out of hand

I've seen lots of people say that they believe the original clown sightings were a marketing scheme for a horror movie (some people have mentioned IT but I don’t know if that's true. Think about those people who would smile creepily at American Football Games for the Movie Smile. I believe that this is also the official reasoning. A marketing tactic gone out of control is the most rational reason for this, but let's hear MY theories.

2. Doomsday Cult

So, first of all, I believe that even if some of the clowns were people dressed up, some of them were members of some kind of Doomsday Cult. I don’t know what cult but I think that they were trying to cause mass hysteria to invoke some kind of war. But their plan backfired because nobody took it seriously, and instead everyone started copying them. They were REALLY embarrassed and just decided to go home and keep quiet about this. Then it died down naturally as most trends do.

3.World Governments did it to distract us from something

I don’t really remember what was going on in the news because I was like 10, but I bet something suspicious and/or dodgy happened, and these clown sightings were a way to cover it up so there was no attention brought to it. That’s why they all disappeared at the same time because whatever they were covering up had been dealt with. I’m too lazy to figure out what that could be. It's still a big possibility though.
